Movers Pimlico Health and Safety Policy
Movers Pimlico is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, visitors, and customers. This Health and Safety policy applies to all removal and relocation services we provide, including packing, loading, transport, unloading, and storage activities. Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, and damage to property through effective planning, training, supervision, and continuous improvement.
Health and Safety Commitment
The management of Movers Pimlico recognises its duty to manage health and safety as an integral part of our business operations. We will take all reasonably practicable steps to protect the welfare of our staff and any other persons who may be affected by our activities. We are committed to complying with all applicable health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and relevant industry guidance for the removals sector.
Health and safety considerations will never be compromised for commercial or operational reasons. All work must be carried out safely, and everyone has the authority to stop work if they believe it cannot be done without unacceptable risk.
Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the company management, who will ensure that appropriate resources, time, and support are provided to implement this policy. Managers and supervisors are responsible for:
Ensuring that risk assessments are completed, communicated, and reviewed
Planning work so that it can be carried out safely and efficiently
Providing information, instruction, and supervision to staff and contractors
Investigating accidents, incidents, and near-misses and implementing corrective actions
Employees, including drivers, porters, and office staff, are required to:
Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions
Follow all safety instructions, training, and company procedures
Use equipment and vehicles correctly and report any defects or concerns immediately
Report all accidents, incidents, near-misses, and hazards without delay
Contractors working with Movers Pimlico are expected to adhere to this policy and to maintain standards that are at least equivalent to our own.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Movers Pimlico will identify and assess risks associated with our removal and transport services. Risk assessments will cover, as appropriate, manual handling, working in customers homes and business premises, vehicle movements, use of equipment, storage operations, and environmental conditions that may affect safety.
Findings from risk assessments will be used to develop safe systems of work and practical control measures. These may include, for example, team lifting techniques, route planning, use of mechanical aids, restriction of access in work areas, and specific arrangements for high-risk items or locations.
Risk assessments will be reviewed regularly and following any significant change in our operations, an incident, or new legislation or guidance.
Training, Competence, and Supervision
All employees will receive appropriate health and safety training relevant to their role. This may include induction training, manual handling, safe vehicle loading, use of removal equipment, working at height where applicable, and customer site safety.
Only trained and authorised personnel will be permitted to operate vehicles, lifting equipment, or any specialist tools. Additional supervision will be provided for new or inexperienced staff until they are deemed competent.
Training needs will be regularly reviewed to ensure that skills and knowledge remain current. Records of training and competence will be maintained.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a core aspect of removal work and will be carefully controlled. Staff will receive guidance on assessment of loads, team lifting, use of trolleys and other aids, posture, and recognising personal limits. No employee should attempt to lift or move any item they believe to be too heavy, awkward, or unsafe.
All equipment, including trolleys, dollies, ramps, straps, and protective materials, will be maintained in good condition and used according to training and manufacturer instructions. Defective or damaged equipment must be taken out of service and reported immediately.
Vehicles, Driving, and Road Safety
Movers Pimlico will ensure that vehicles used for removal services are maintained, inspected, and loaded safely. Drivers must carry out pre-use checks, report defects promptly, and never drive a vehicle they believe to be unsafe.
Loads must be distributed evenly and adequately secured to prevent movement during transit. Safe driving practices must be followed at all times, including adherence to speed limits, rest breaks, and restrictions on mobile phone use while driving.
Only employees with the appropriate licence, training, and authorisation may drive company vehicles.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
When working at customer homes, offices, and other premises, our staff will take care to protect both people and property. This includes maintaining clear walkways, using protective coverings where appropriate, controlling access to work areas, and communicating clearly with customers and any other occupants.
Care will be taken to minimise hazards to members of the public during loading and unloading, including safe positioning of vehicles, use of warning signs or cones where necessary, and keeping doors, gates, and access routes secure.
Accidents, Incidents, and Near-Misses
All accidents, incidents, and near-misses must be reported to management as soon as possible. Movers Pimlico will investigate such events to determine causes and implement corrective or preventive actions to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
Where required, statutory reporting obligations will be fulfilled. Records will be kept to support monitoring and improvement of our safety performance.
Welfare and Occupational Health
Movers Pimlico recognises the importance of both physical and mental wellbeing. Reasonable welfare facilities will be provided, and employees are encouraged to raise any health concerns that may affect their ability to carry out their duties safely.
We will consider individual needs, such as fitness for driving, manual handling capability, and any medical restrictions, to ensure appropriate task allocation and support.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
We value feedback from employees and customers on health and safety matters. Staff are encouraged to suggest improvements and to raise any concerns without fear of reprisal. Regular reviews of this policy and our procedures will be carried out to ensure they remain effective and reflect the nature and scale of our removal operations.
This Health and Safety policy is communicated to all employees and is made available to customers and other interested parties on request. It will be reviewed periodically and updated as necessary to maintain high standards of safety throughout Movers Pimlico.
